Divine

I have heard my father
rattling the beans in his fist
like a rain spell
like a handful
of hard desert beetles
like dark prayer beads

I have seen them
transformed
by delicious alchemy
into brown slabs,
ambrosial ingots
wrapped in gold.

The first bite
of Divine chocolate
fills my mouth
with the flavours
of a sky line
softening after sunset,
the sugared breath
of mild benevolent winds,

the vanilla balm
of lullaby's,
calm rivers humming
as they meander
through my land.

The first bite
makes my tongue sing
a new song;
a song of melted honey
and mythic spices
sweetening the landscape
as it flows.
